 Thanks, seems wierd that you'd turn down a chance to be part of a GS, although I guess maybe cost was prohibative. I think that he never went Stateside this year.

Maybe more to do with the fact that he wants to get back to his best form playing futures.

I suppose the thinking goes something like this. Considerable cost (flights, hotels, etc) and unless you get a really nice draw probably a first round defeat so not really worth missing one and realistically two* futures events for.

* I doubt he would have played a clay court futures in Belgium this week (potentially lasting till Sat) if he was going to play US Open qualies.
