If you read Josh's blog, he's been ill, which no doubt goes some way to explaining it. Even so, that's a career best win for Tom, beating his win against Grigelis last year. It can't be easy to beat a player ranked nearly 1000 players above you even when he isn't 100% but I was very impressed with Tom's serve when I saw him at Wimbledon juniors a few years ago and even more impressed with how he kept his nerve when he and Stefan Sterland-Markovic won 13-11 in the 3rd against a pair than included the then junior no. 1 Daniel Berta, and no doubt both of those things (serve and nerve) were vital to him pulling off the win today.

Unfortunately, Dan lost in 3 - that makes it three weeks in a row he has lost two rounds before he was seeded to go out (2 QFs when seeded 2 and R2 when seeded 3)

The only QF with any 'previous' is Bloomers v Harrison - the American won in 3 sets in the Glasgow QFs two weeks ago.
A tweet from Olin yesterday (I was trying in vain to get that elusive final R2 result) made me laugh:
"Mötte idag en udda spelare med 2 forehands och servar med båda händer..." or in other words (it's close enough to English/German to be fairly obvious):
"Today I played a strange player with two forehands who also serves with both hands" ... that'll be the Scottish GEM Nicolas Rosenzweig then

Glad you were on hand to record that, Steven. I was distracted by work...
Rice 7-5 *2-3.
I had a quick look and he had 2 MPs. At that time, I didn't I'd have to watch the screen for nearly 5 minutes before he actually won.
If you're registered on bet365 (I think they ask for a £10 deposit, which is worth it for the live streams - there's no obligation to place any bets), you can access the final results from the bottom of the screen. It's not the simplest process, but wastes less time than waiting when (as almost always!) there are more productive things to do.
