According to the ATP site, thats Rice's first qf since the British F4 last year

It is indeed his first singles QF for 10 months but he did qualify and reach R2 of a Challenger in September, which is where over half of his remaining singles points come from.

I didn't see all the match but impressed with JWH keeping his cool to save 3 match points. Then got 0-40 and great drop shot retrieval with a deft cross court winner to get the break at 30-40 and then serve it out. Ward's broken racket sat in the middle of the court at the end.

Ten minutes later Evo took 4 attempts to break his racket after Harrison broke from 40-0. But he was loose and volcanic from there and Evo had 4 set points at 6-2 in the TB. On the third a Harrison shot was clearly out until the net cord dragged it in but Evo regrouped to take the 4th set point. Had to leave then - looked 50/50 at that stage.
