I do hope Ed plays in the French CH st Breiuc next week (week 14) ahead of his Davis Cup 5th player duties, because if he is asked to pull out, he would in effect not be playing any tournaments in weeks 13-16 inclusive, which seems a rather long break for a man in form.
From Bob in Spain's discussion with Kyle and his coach, I think he was originally planning to play 2 US clay $15ks in weeks 15 and 16, followed by 2 US $50k CHs on clay in weeks 17 and 18. Playing qualifying for this $100k CH instead of the 2 Futures (with DC commitments) is a nice compromise. Thinking big at least!
The 8th seed was only 4 ahead of Kyle in the entry list before the usual final day spate of no shows, so if Kyle is there and fit, there's no way he could have missed the cut for qualies. Either he's not playing (due to a fitness problem) or more likely he has a WC into the MD. A bit surprising, given the expectation of US only WCs, but there are a large number of non-US WCs in qualies, so I think its a possibility
Steven has removed Kyle altogether from the week 16 table, so perhaps he has some more info

Wouldn't be suprised , two of the wild cards were going to Americans who were consequently the next two alternates for the main draw, and with SE's to clear...
Seen on mtf it mentioned that the American who gets most points from the 3 upcoming clay challengers will get a RG WC. Not a bad idea, wonder if the LTA would consider something similar for wimby.

I really like that idea. Perhaps extending it to GB events in general would be fairer though, so it was a year long effort rather than just 3 weeks, and of course including queens would add a lot of bias due to the need for WC.

I don't have any more info - I changed him to "not playing" on the week 16 table when I noticed he wasn't in qualies. It seems unlikely he has got a main draw wild card but I'm still hoping he has!

I like the idea of a completely objective method for giving out one of the WCs, but both of the options mentioned are fraught with problems. Giving it for the most points accumulated in a few GB grass court events means it could well go to the player adds to the advantage of getting the most luck of the draw in those events (luck of the draw doesn't really even out over a whole year, so it certainly won't even out over two or three grass court events), while giving it for the most points accumulated in all GB events gives yet more incentive to players not to venture abroad, which doesn't seem like a good idea - better to give it to those with the most points for all events, which takes us back to just using the ATP rankings.
