It wouldn't really surprise me if he doesn't play again until the first Nottingham Challenger at the very start of June. For whatever reason he seems extremely reluctant to travel and there are only clay court events in the UK over the next few weeks. Then again it wouldn't surprise me if he turns up at Bournmouth and/or Edinburgh in qualies or with a wild card.

He's going to China the next week to play in the super challenger and presumably Korea the week after, not sure if this means he's going to bother with RG qualies or not.

Am I right in saying that Dan Evans hasn't formally applied to enter a professional tournament since week 5 in January!!!

His 3 most recent GB Futures were QWC, QWC, WC and that took him to Mid March (which is a waste of his annual WC allowance and probably annoying for other players in qualifying). Nothing until at least week 19, which is w/c 6th May, including the first 2 GB clay Futures (surely he wouldn't further waste his WC allowance on these).

Remember he wasn't actually part of the DC set-up until the very last moment, so that doesn't provide any explanation.

I know he's a bit of a maverick, but how does a professional tennis player climb the rankings without entering professional tennis tournaments? If there's nothing booked in for week 19, that takes us to mid May and at that point I would wonder whether he's even going to bother before the grass-court season. Now I believe James W is probably missing RG qualies in favour of a couple of big hard court CHs in Asia - please let's hope his DC buddy is on the plane with him.

Sorry - I missed the above post making a similar point about Dan - please forgive me.

Dan hasn't entered the Chinese challenger that was referred to above, or any other challengers in week 19. Futures entries for that week don't come out until tomorrow afternoon.

Trouble with Dan is he needs the DC to run every week!

is there something that could stop you travelling overseas? perhaps that we are not aware of?

Thanks RJA. Just spotted that myself and was, once again, disappointed. There are limits for QWCs and WCs (think its 5 and 3), so I'd be surprised if Dan wasted any of these on clay Futures. I'm presuming he is nailed on for a Wimbledon WC and one of Queen's/Eastbourne. Which leaves 2 Challengers and/or the other remaining ATP event for his QWCs.

He didn't actually get a QWC for Shrewsbury. They didn't have a full 48 man draw so he just signed into qualifying as a late entry.

I don't know but last September, after winning the Nottingham futures, he said that if he got his ranking high enough he would go to Australia this January.

Maybe he is so hopeless in love with his girlfriend that he can't bare to go more than a few days without seeing her wink
