Evo has tweeted that he is flying to Slovenia tomorrow so I think it is safe to assume that he will be playing qualifying in Portoroz. If he had entered the tournament originally he would have made the main draw.
Why does Evo keep doing this (not entering on time and having to go through qualies), I wonder
It's a pity none of the hard court loving Brits have gone to Ecuador - the Manta Challenger has run out of alternates for the main draw so qualifying could be rather easy ...

In fairness to Evo this was probably a late decision. He may have had high hopes of coming through Wimbledon qualifying, or having a MDWC, in which case he may not have planned to play an event next week.
That's true ... and it wouldn't have seemed particularly out of the ordinary had he not done it a few times before in Futures.
Anyway, it's good to see him being a bit more ambitious, so I'm glad he's heading out there
Again, the comparison to futures isn't entirely apt as he would know that he would be a DA in any futures he entered. At the time of entry for this event he was WR 277 and may not have thought he would get in. With challengers (unlike futures) the qualifying draw is not based on advanced entry so if you think you will have to go through qualifying there is no need to enter in advance.
In any event what matters is that Dan is now seemingly going to play 3 consecutive challengers which is a fantastic sign of where his mindset is and where he is hopefully heading. Some good performances in the next few weeks will more than make up for his Wimbledon disappointment.
