It was a shame. The nerves seem to get the better of her. She'll be there again in the future.

SHould get a seeding for US open now but a few decent tournaments prior should guarantee it.

I think Laura should take a small break work on a few things and coming raring to go in the US where now she is a proper contender.

Shame. A match that Laura could have won. A first set that she should have won. But a great tournament overall, which highlighted both her potential, and the massive shortcomings she will need to overcome to take the next step.

Movement, footwork, anticipation, speed and fitness remains by far the biggest opportunity.  i just hope that in 2 years time we are no longer saying precisely the same thing. Just how many tennis pundits and former GS winners have to say the same thing for her to take action. Compared tothe Lisicki match today, Laura's match looked like it was played in slow motion, and she could eliminate so many UEs so easily by working on this.

The other issue seems to be chronic nerves when  close to the winning post which completely stops her playing the same way that got her there in the first place. She has lost 3 matches this year from 1 or 2 breaks up in set 2/3. She froze today twice when trying to close out set 1. And it started to happen against Erakovic, but she pulled through. Spending time with Andy could do her no harm at all......find out what he does and copy it.

Anyone know what she's up to next tournament wise.

A bit random this, but vaguely interesting perhaps (obviously I was hoping to be able to use it yesterday, but then everything went wrong!)

If all the results had gone Laura's way yesterday (had she won and Lisicki lost, effectively), she would probably have been WR 21 next Monday ... exactly 4 days younger than Annabel Croft was when she reached WR 21 in 1985. Of course, WR 21 turned out to be Annabel's career high - Laura is now likely to be WR 27 on Monday (in many ways more impressive than WR 21 in 1985 when there were a lot fewer countries represented in the top 100) but hopefully has considerably more upside, even if at times recently she has looked as sad as Croft must have when she decided to call it a day. (fortunately, at plenty of other times, she has been happy Laura too )

Yes, a fiver on Flipkens and you could be looking at a nice windfall.

I've really enjoyed all the craziness of this years Wimbledon - for the casual tennis fan it might be a disappointment losing Serena and Maria and leaving a lack of star names but for those of us who follow tennis more closely it's great to see some different names and how they perform in the big matches. Best of all every match from the quarter finals onwards is one where you can't call a winner with any degree of certainty. Far more entertaining than the predicted Serena Williams precession.

I would pick Radwanska to win now, even though Lisicki is the bookies favourite - it is a great opportunity for her to win a Grand Slam title and she has stepped up in Premier Mandatories when other players have faltered in the past. A Radwanska - Flipkens final would be a proper throwback to Wimbledons past.
