Wise decision methinks, good to recharge those batteries and then maybe head over to the States for a bit of hard court action.

Wild cards in Woking for Mel South, Katie Boulter, Laura Deigman & Anna Smith.

Gonna be interesting to see where Alex Ward ends up. At the moment he is 3 away from qualifying draw at ATP event in Hamburg, 5 out of main draw in Turkey, 10 out of Italy and 23 out of Poland.

I think I read a tweet from Dan Smethurst saying he was off to Poland so, that could be the answer???

Alex would have made Hamburg qualifying but he withdrew. I expect he will show up in Poland.

Unusual to see hard court Challengers easier to get into than clay court Challengers, but obviously that's because there are 4 hard court Challengers this week cf. just one on clay - also very unusual! Good to see so many of top Brits going for them, anyway.

Kyle has pulled out of the Italian futures for this week and the next, wonder why

Probably wants a bit of a break. In his last two singles matches he has has looked a little ratty and flustered at times which is pretty unusual for him. That probably isn't surprising as the last few weeks will have been quite intense from a mental perspective. A week or two off, or of just some light practice, might be for the best.

Not really on topic but just to say that Kyle has made the ATP Rankings main page as the 'Star of the Future' player (there's only him and Ferrer and Janowicz - under a different heading - on the page so it's not bad company to keep . . .)

The interview doesn't really say much, just re-emphasises the importance they place on physique and fitness - but it comes across as 'Kyle'.

Hidden depth of GB women's tennis ?

I know we're a long way off the end of the week (and it's only going to get better) but here's something I noticed:

this week the GB women chalked up 127 points, over 20 players.

Now that's not a record, I'm sure - there must have been plenty of time Laura/Hev did well and tons of others got 1 and 2.

BUT, if we ignore those scoring 1 (often just a WC to a 25k) and those scoring 2 (because it suits my argument as no one's got 2 this week!):

for players scoring at least 4 WR points, GB women have got 117 points this week, over 10 players or, put another way, 10 players have scored at least 4 points, with a total of 117.

This might be a record . .

And if it isn't, if you then add that, only using a minimum of 4 points, 10 GB women have scored a total of 117 points WITHOUT any of the top three players being involved, this surely must be a record.

PS I'm not too fussed about records, but it did seem quite exceptional.
