For TCBB, Aljaz Bedene WR 45 def. Martin Klizan WR 43 (CH 24) 6-4 3-6 6-3
Good result!
In the doubles, Ali and Golubev lost to Jaziri and Joss Ouanna
The match was drawn 3-3
(NB For the Jarkko Niemenem fans, he's still playing team tennis - lost his singles, won his doubles yesterday)
In the women, none of ours have played the first couple of matches but Tara Moore showed up last weekend and played (result was late to be posted).
She won her singles, beating Fiona Gervais, 6-2 7-6
And, teaming up with Conny Perrin as normal, won the doubles too, in a MTB.
The team drew 3-3 (the team had lost their first two matches so nice to get a draw - and got a win yesterday but only coz the other team has withdrawn and defaulted all their matches)
They therefore finish second in the A pool of the 1iere division.
as such, they should qualify for the play-offs on Saturday Dec. 5th, playing the winners of Pool B, with the winners of A playing the runners-up of B. And the two winners playing the final on Sunday.
(James McGee also turned up, playing for Eaubonne, but he lost his two matches, and the team has finished bottom and will be relegated next season).
It was semi-final day today in the top elite division of team tennis in France.
In the Premiere division, Bedene's team, TCBB, won 4-2 against Quimperle
Aljaz def. Vincent Millot 6-4 6-4, but lost his doubles - at one set all - by abandon.
My guess is that is was neither him not his partner who was injured but that the other doubles finished just before, (which TCBB won) and the team had therefore won and everyone went mad and there was no need to finish off Aljaz's doubles.
Tomorrow they play Villa Primrose in the final. Villa Primrose (one of the Bordeaux teams) have Chardy and Stakhovsky and Texeira as their top three players. They beat the Paris team of Benneteau, Bourgue and Lamasine today
CD thanks for keeping us updated, I am shocked at the quality of players engaged at the highest level. You can see what a fantastic resource the French have to develope their young players. The thought of Quimperle being a major sporting force is amazing what next Guingamp playing PSG! The concept that municipalities buy into and take pride in local sport is very alien to us in the UK
I might well have been wrong yesterday, about the reason the doubles didn't get finished, as Aljaz didn't play today, which is extremely unusual (i,e, he was over there, whatever, and everyone wants to play the final after winning the semi).
So I now fear he might be injured......
And the net effect was that his team lost, 2-4, against the Bordeaux lot. With Chardy, Stakhovsky and Jouan winning their singles, Axel Michon winning his for TCBB, and the doubles being split one each.
Just posted this as a specific reply in another thread and thought it should go here too, as it's a more logical place if anyone is trying to find it some time later. (It's individual events , not team tennis, but all the same)
here is the site that lists all the money tournaments in France:
Mirabelle's team is in a lower league (the pre-nationals, i.e. at regional level).
It is fair to say that she is therefore cruising through her team matches, with scores in the last few weeks of: 6-0 6-0, 6-0 6-0 and 6-1 6-0 (shame about that one game - very sloppy )
At her club, there is also:
Chelsea Samways (born 1998) - won her two team matches on the 6th and 13th of March (has been playing ITF juniors since then, I think). Played a couple of other events this year too.
Natasha Hood (born 1996) - 4 wins, one defeat in the team matches
Alexandra Yeardley (born 1999) - who's won her five team matches, too, these past 6 weeks, as well as other matches (overall this year, team and money tournaments, she's 10 victories, 11 defeats).
As the UK is part of Europe (for the moment anyway!!), thought I'd post up some of the results from our own National Team Tennis which has just kicked off....
