Juan Martin del Potro

BBC website is reporting that JMDP is having wrist surgery again today and will miss the rest of the season.

He is not a Brit, but I have to feel sorry for him. That's twice in 4 years that he has suffered the same problem although this time it is his left wrist.

Que te mejores pronto, pobrecito.

Yes, JMDP has had a hard time with injury problems since his US Open triumph in 2009. Such a big yet almost effortless looking game when he's in shape and form.

Wrists can be a very big problem, and one does worry for Laura who has also suffered problems with both wrists.

Disappointing news to hear.

However it means Evo is one place nearer to a direct acceptance for Paris, Wimbledon and US open.

He is not somebody that I like to watch, but I am heartily sorry for him. Once is bad enough, but twice, by the age of 25, is really tough.

Apparently the surgeon who carried out the op said his wrist was in quite a mess, and was astounded that Juan had managed to even play with in this state.

I remember chatting to a British tennis player recently who eventually had to have a wrist op, initially the doctors said rest it, but after 4 months rest and no improvement, he eventually had the op, was out for 6 months. On coming back there is still a level of discomfort but manageable.

Laura currently in same predicament, no improvement with resting.

it's true that wrists take a huge pounding with tennis. With players who aren't outstanding movers, but who still give the ball a massive rip, even if out of position and off balance (jmdp forexample), the liklihood of problems only rises. Juan comes across as a great guy - what a huge shame.

According to new reports (with the obvious and important caveat - no idea if it's true), Del Potro's dad 'stole' and/or mismanaged all Juan-M's money (which has only come to light after the father's death), leaving Juan-M close to bankruptcy

He is likely retiring after playing Buenos Aires and Rio tournaments.

I'll never forget that Olympic final with Andy - I didn't want either to lose, they both gave their all and more

JMDP lost 1 and 3. It looks like its not 100 percent its his last match but probably is. Doesnt look like he will be in Rio although not totally confirmed.

Feels a lot like when Andy retired that time, lots of emotion and suggestions but still searching for an elusive solution.

Wish him well.

That was my take from it during his interview too. Not definitively retiring but a possibility
