L16: (5) Neil Pauffley WR 545 lost to (Q) Marko Lenz (GER) WR 1751 (CH 620 in 2012) by 7-6(2) 3-6 7-5
It hasn't been a good week in Futures (singles) - 5 into R2 (Neil, James M, Joe, Richard & Scott) and, er, none of them got any further 0 - and that's despite Brits being seeded 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 in various events

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Unfortunately - due to the rain, Neil's R2 match ended up inside on a carpet type surface that appeared to have sand chucked on top. If it hadn't been for this I like to think he would have had a week that could have put him back in to top 500.

Thanks for the "inside" info IGMC.
If you have been following the board, you will know that I am very keen for him (and others) to get back into the top 500, so last weeks result was a shame.
I am also keen to see him back in the top 500 and finding his bad luck very frustrating at times. Apparently it hadn't rained here for the last 3 years - and has done nothing but rain this week. Neil is feeling comfortable on clay at the minute (recent results being F, SF and QF before this week, although his second round match wasn't on clay) so if finances will allow it, he is hoping to play on clay as much as possible til the end of the year.

Thanks for the welcome :)
Hi sherbert, I think I might have been introduced to you last year at Nottingham whilst talking to Neil. Neil's a real good lad and I firmly believe there's much more to come in his tennis career. Hopefully he can keep that back complaint under control and reach his potential.
Ah yes! I think I remember...was a tough match against Martin Fischer. I hope so too, I know Neil can play well - as can quite a few of the other British players with a ranking similar to his. They just need to be able to push on to challenger level and play at that standard every week - rather than a couple of times a year.
I stumbled across this board and found it very interesting to see all of your opinions (I can sometimes be biased) and find it brilliant the level of interest so many people show in their tennis careers.
