And if any players get what many see as I'll considered, unfair criticism, it gets called by a forum that I have often seen rally to a player at such times.
But sarcastic digs for not being 100% supportive, please no.
The details of Kyle's & James's terrific doubles win:
R1: James Cluskey (IRL) & Kyle Edmund UNR (*) defeated (3) Lee Hsin-Han & Danai Udomchoke (TPE/THA) CR 336 (147+189) by 4-6 6-3 [10-8]
(*) James is currently ranked at N° 193 in doubles, while Kyle has no doubles ranking, but a CH of 1,481 in May last year. His 15 points for reaching the quarter-finals would appear to put him level with Dan Evans (N° 1,293), but I've probably got that completely round my neck!
QF: Huang Laing-Chi & Toshihide Matsui (TPE/JPN) CR 439 (175+264) or Thomas Fabbiano & Luca Vanni (ITA/ITA) CR 677 (298+379) vs James Cluskey (IRL) & Kyle Edmund UNR
Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Kyle will now be GB no 3 in the post US Open rankings ( assuming no other unexpected entry and success in a challenger next week ). And Kyle himself is clearly still in this week and has another challenger next week.
Clearly initially kind of inherited from Evo, but hopefully before too long Kyle will be getting himself into the top 200, on his way to who knows...
It'll be interesting to see if KE can maintain his excellent record against lower ranked players....I think I'm right in saying that the only time he has lost against a lower ranked player this year as in Vercelli where Bolelli beat him. Bolelli was lowly ranked due to injury.
I hope tomorrow's match will be on at a more reasonable hour!
Good news to wake up to. The QF will cover off all the points that Kyle has coming off on 8th Sept already and a SF would mean he has more than covered all the points to come off for the rest of the year - and then some. So, the only way is up, for the rest of the year.
