I hadn't watched Liam since his junior Wimbledon run, but there have been comments about him having a shocking on court attidude. There was no sign of that yesterday, so it seems like he has matured out of it, good to see.

Liam would currently be GB no 7 on Monday, but just one further win ( reach the SF ) from being GB no 5 and two further wins ( reach the final ) from being GB no 3.

Would be pretty good to have brother and sister both as GB no 3s, especially bearing in mind various things they've had to come through.

But, whatever, it has been an impressive week from Liam. He is certainly moving up the world rankings, having been just inside the top 400 mid year when he set out on his futures foray in North America.

Some ( including myself ) questioned him ( and Luke ) missing the grass court season and his early North American results didn't seem too encouraging, but it's difficult to argue with what's followed.

And conversely it looks like Dan Cox who was GB no.3 will drop down to GB no.10. It's tight in the rankings...

Of course if Liam wins the next round, he will get an SE for next week.

In his defence, I felt almost all of the chunter was positive yesterday... apart from that lob in the second set.

Liam has grafted hard this improvement and must be beginning to understand what he can do and where he needs to improve to be a top 100 then top 30 process. By definition this has to be an iterative process and his itinerary has facilitated it. I really hope he gets another win and an SE for the next challenger. I don't know how they get on but I can't help but feel that two young players at similar levels competing together can't do anything but help. I feel we are in a stronger position than this time last year given generally our players competing at this level last year were at least 3-4 years older and fairly limited in terms of potential. That said James has had a Stella year and exceeded my and hopefully his own expectations

Yes, great progress by Liam this year and particularly lately.

So often progress comes in bursts at such ages, and while peer to peer comparisons can be interesting, that is certainly one reason I have issues about to my mind too much being made of direct comparisons between former top juniors in respect of their senior rankings as they go through the early years of their senior careers.

It's the ultimate destination that matters more than the race to get there.

Aye - just look at Ryan Harrison. Surged to the top 100 in his teens bit hasn't kicked on since, whilst his peers (as well as many from younger generations) are catching up and surpassing him.
