Just to note that Tom Farquharson has got his MSc in the Netherlands, and now working in tech, as a business development intern for a pharma tech startup company, as well as still coaching in tennis.
Have a lot of time for Tom - wish him all the best.
Just doing a rain-check on players who are AWOL at the moment - speculating that they've retired??? - or injured? - or have just downed sticks during covid? Or maybe I'm just out of touch....
But:
James Ward?
Brydan Klein?
Jan Choinski?
Evan Hoyt?
Jack Findel-Hawkins?
Also, in the women, there's various levels of no show from:
James was doing some training at Wimbledon last month. Or at least hitting with Cliff Richard(!)
Evan Hoyt is injured (knee surgery to repair torn meniscus) -that was 8 weeks ago on Instagram.
I'm sure Naomi B was playing in doubles somewhere fairly recently.
I know that, being Northern Irish, he plays for Ireland (daft rule, IMHO, if ever there was one)
But he's obviously 'British', and has been very present on the tennis scene, as an opponent, friend, training partner, doubles partner etc. etc. of a lot of our players, and a key player at Soto.
He cites financial pressures and not being able to break-even as the main reason for retiring. As a player of about 500-600 rank, it's understandable, and he is 25 now...
I think he's going into coaching now so good luck to him going forward....
a lot of them are waiting for next years summer pay day, also known as summer grass court wildcard charity month.
I very much doubt it since last year some of the available WC's weren't used, pretty sure that sent a strong signal out to players below 300 not to expect one.
