I imagine (and have no real idea) that Maia is playing here to support Glasgow ? Scottish tennis? Get a bit of match time before trying an ITF ? Her younger brother is also here. (I do like players who support their local clubs/regions....)
Seems fair enough, and you can get quite a decent mix of juniors and seniors in the tour events, though the quality seems pretty variable with some weeks much stronger than others.
In Taunton, Mariam Bolkvadze (WR 579) beat Laura Sainsbury in the the semis and will play Serena Nash who defeated (q) Elise van Heuvelen in the other semi
The top British Tour scoring players are all playing this weekend at the British Masters (£2k to the winner).
Freya Christie, Lisa W, Manisha, Lucy Brown, Serena Nash, Ellie-Rose, etc. are all playing and won their first matches (as well as second seed, Mariam Bolkvadze). Aimee G and Savannah Sills lost in the first round.
Guaranteed £400 for just making the QF - definitely worth turning up, especially for the likes of Serena, Mollie and Ellie-Rose who don't play much on the main tour. Slightly surprised Beth isn't playing.

Serena is planning on US college, I'm pretty sure, so can't accept prize money (only expenses, which all comes out flat in the wash). I'd have thought Ellie-Rose is keeping her options open too.
Presumably Beth is 'hasta-ing la vista' to the UK, over in Spain
But, yep, prize money is very nice, given the pittances of ITF 10ks ....
