Dan Smethurst beats Dan Cox for the first time since 2006 to win his 11th Futures singles title (but will still drop below him on the rankings on Monday week because he has so many points to come off from last January's GB Futures):

FINAL: (1/WC) Dan Smethurst WR 284 beat (2/WC) Dan Cox WR 298 by 4 & 4

Happy that Dan S came out on top there, he has so many points to defend at the start of this year!

Hopefully he has found that golden form again which tailed off at the end of last season through injury/illness which is fantastic news... needs to get back to around 225 and concentrate on challengers as quick as possible

Good stuff.

While there is so much to admire about Dan Cox, to me Dan Smethurst is the player with the the bigger game and greater upwards potential.

He will do well to relatively hold near his position in the rankings in the short term, but hopefully is building back his form and has pretty much a free pass to move up the rankings in the second half of the year.

Don't know if the above has been posted anywhere but nice to hear from Smethurst here. I am guessing the ATP herefers to is Marseille
