What a result for Dom and Florin, well that's a great way to celebrate your birthday ( Florin is 30 today) biggrin

Great stuff by Dom and Florin.

In spite of some of us trying to give them alternative opponents they just went and walloped the best.

Pity Jamie and John couldn't make it too, but can't have everything.

Great news about Dom - his 3rd slam QF and 2nd in a row at the AO (though that of course means it won't do much for his ranking unless he can win again)

Stupendous result, made the more interesting for me anyway, by the fact that Mergea doesn't even come in on his serve. And you wouldn't exactly call him a power player either. There's clearly some chemistry. It makes for an interesting Davis Cup doubles pairing selection this time round, what with several players all performing well at the moment.

For the record:

QF:  (6) Jean-Julien Rojer & Horia Tecau (NED/ROU) CR 32 (16+16) defeated (14) Dom Inglot & Florin Mergea (ROU) CR 72 (48+24) by 6-4 (7-6)

The final could prove interesting.  In the top half of the draw, the unseeded Italian duo, "Fog & Bol", saw off the likes of Johnson & Querrey, the 10th seeds, Klaasen & Paes & Cuevas & Marrero on their way to the semis, while in the bottom half, the unfancied Frogs, Pierre-Hugues Herbert & Nicolas Mahut, have cut a veritable swathe through the seeds, accounting for Cabal & Farah (11), Qureshi & Zimonjic (8) & their compatriots, Julien Benneteau & ERV (2), as they've progressed.  I wouldn't bet against it...

a tight match and although not going any further this time, a really good tournament for Dom - well done.

Very good week for Dom and importantly defended his big points haul from last year. However he must be a bit disappointed as with how the draw has opened up this was a genuine chance to go all the way.

And a "Fog & Bol" vs PHH & Mahut final it is!  dizzy.gif

Are 'Fog Bol' related to the other tried and tested duo, 'Spag Bol' ?

I recall Fog & Bol being seen off in 4 sets by Andy & Colin on Naples clay last April.

Possibly.  I think I must have had them in mind when I christened Bolelli & Fognini "Fog & Bol"! wink
