But an unbelievable point started the comeback with Jonny hitting some miraculous reaction volleys. Then at 8-5 down, Jonny went and did it again. How he hit those volleys, I will never know and the Korean opponents where actually laughing in disbelief.

Jonny#s not a grand slam champ for nothing  cheers for the report Bob

As an aside (and a late one at that) I make it 9 Brits overall entered this event (and thats without any of the top 5 singles players). Is this a record for an overseas ATP??

thank you very much 'Bob in France' for the reports. sounds like all the Brits have done really well in Marseille and hopefully encouraging for them. really thought C & J were going out of the doubles but good to hear of Jonny's amazing net play to help win the match.

Great report, Bob. Sorry that it cost you so dearly, though

Ken & Neal first up tomorrow at 10.30am UK time. No other GB involvement until Weds. I have bought myself an extra day here and will now be staying until Weds evening. Will try and keep the reports coming.

I'll second the plaudits for Bob.  Just one thing, though:  Colin's & Jonny's pesky opponents were Taiwanese, not Koreans. wink

Marcus

Have to say that Marcus played exceptionally well and didnt look out of place at this level. But PHH served his socks off and Marcus just couldnt get a foothold in any of the return games. In the end, there were no breaks in the match but PHH took both the breakers. Marcus had SP in the 1st one but PHH just bombed down another ace.

It was my first time seeing Marcus play live and I hope it isnt my last. He was fantastic to watch, not least just to listen to his own running commentary throughout the match. Great to watch overall and in terms of quality, it was probably the best of the 4 matches.

Tough draw but  Great to see Marcus competing well at this level very close match against a much higher ranked player important to continue playing at this level if going to break through and fulfil his potential

Given how much it rains here, they would never finish it if it was an outdoor tournament. Match report to follow shortly.
