James drew the short straw, he plays Lopez in R1.

James Ward comes through Dubai qualifying & lands a place against Feliciano Lopez who has been unwell & unable to practice since arriving.

After the draw he got in qualifying James is hardly in a position to complain about an unlucky main draw.

Seems like Floppy is ill, so maybe a chance for Wardy.

James' match against Feliciano is on Tuesday so hopefully Feli will be ok to play by then.

was just wondering what happens in the first round re withdrawals. does the player have to say by a certain time that they're unable to play? I know LL's get in but can a player get a walkover due to an opponents illness in the first round?

Potential LL's have to sign in each day where there are first round matches (or 2nd round matches where one player had a first round bye). I believe deadline is 30 minutes before play commences. If any players then withdraw before their match starts a LL gets to play. Obviously if no lucky losers sign in it is possible for there to be a walkover but I don't recall ever seeing this happen.

Great for Wardy, hopefully FL will start the match and then think you know what, don't feel quite right and retire ;)

Great opportunity for James, is real positive to see hi, in another ATP tour main draw with a chance to play and perhaps scalp a top 20 player.

If James can somehow get through R1, then the QF is a possibility = top 100 and $$$! Go James.
