RE: Week 8 - ATP 500 - Dubai, UAE - Hard

I see that Lopez is playing doubles right now so presumably he is not that ill.

Maybe, but as we've seen with Hev of late, you can do well in dubs without the same being the case in singles, so my fingers are crossed for Wardy.

Beautiful day to watch tennis. Poor scheduling putting the two Brits on at exactly the same time.

Starting with Ward.  Easy hold to start with.

Lopez starting to serve well. Hope James doesn't live to regret that 2nd break point which he should have converted in Lopez open service game. Ward holds. Solid service game. Sitting two seats away from Wards coach. Giving plenty of advice in between points. Wow. Two double faults from Lopez and an easy netted volley gives ward 2 break points again. A long deuce game finally won by Lopez

Poor service games and Lopez breaks to love. Heading over to centre court to watch Andy.

James loses first set 6-4 despite having 6 break points in the set.

really would have loved to have watched this match to see how James played - the scoring seemed close. it's so good to have two Brits playing in the main draw of ATP singles.

well done to James for his effort :)

Sigh. Sounds like a close match and a respectable score against top player .. but I just so wish for Mr Ward to get across that top-100 line.

In an unrelated question, does anyone know when Fabrice Santoro started coaching Sergiy Stakhovsky? As I look for GB results, I've been noticing that Stakhovsky's results are much improved... and just picked up that he was being coached by Santoro.

Think it was late last year, Spectator.

I think it must be quite a thing to be coached by Santoro! Could hardly be conventional :)

Updated rankings :

L32 : (Q) James Ward WR 108 lost to (6) Feliciano Lopez (ESP) WR 13 ( at CH ) 6-4 6-4

I see that Floppy is at a new CH this week at the age of 33.
