RE: Week 8 - Portugal F1 ($10,000) - Vale do Lobo (Hard)

Marzi wins 6-2 6-4.  Not much luck in the draw here with Brits drawn against Brits everywhere. Alex has played Matt Short in R1 and will now play Marzi in R2.

But at least a Ward v Marsalek R2 match will guarantee that Bob in Portugal has a Brit to watch in the QF on Friday. wink

Yes, paulisi, as I've mentioned there seemed so much more vibrancy outwith the top 500 a year ago and even still at the end of the year I felt more optimism than I do now.

How much the LTA's 'tough love', or whatever the heck they're about, has effected things, is debatable, but effected things it has and I expect to see further retirements.

Think how close we were to 20 in the top 500 during last year and were still talking about prospects for this year. The goalposts have moved and Bob won't be seeing anywhere near his 20 in the top 500 anytime in the medium term at least, let alone short term.

Potentially very very good and / or well off is the way to be. For the moment 'just' adding to core numbers further down the rankings from which some others may come through later is not on the agenda, pyramids are out it seems in current LTA land. Really prove yourself young or you're on your own.

And yes, one looks to the players themselves to do all they can to improve, but one senses a poor climate, although within tennis many good people trying to help.

C'mon, Marzi, swim against the tide !

Alex was apparently cruising the all Brit L16 match leading 6-1 *5-4 and serving for the match. But Marzi has hit back to take the 2nd set on a TB and they are now into a decider. Winner to play Mate Pavic.

Marzi serves for the match at 5-4, only for Alex to break back.

Pavic is a bit of a banana skin because he is underanked as he plays a lot of doubles.

Quick favour to ask. Setting off in a few mins for Portugal. When the OoP comes out, could somebody please post the time of this match on here. Not sure Resultina shows OoP times and don't fancy my chances of accessing the ITF site on the iPhone.

Thanks

Josh Milton beat him in Marseille last week with Alex watching from the sidelines. Hopefully he picked up a few tips.

Thanks. I can take my time then. And to Indi, mad is spot on but I do have an ulterior motive this time which I will reveal if it comes off.
