Week 20 - Challenger (€42,500) - Eskisehir, Turkey - hard

Marzi giving Challenger qualies a go, bless 'im, but he could hardly have had a worse draw:

QR1:  (q3) Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 379 (CH = 183 in July 2012) vs James Marsalek WR 668 (CH = 537 in May 2013) bleh

Yes, horrible draw but I guess not too surprising in this level of event.

Never in doubt (he surrendered the break in the ninth game, but broke again in the eleventh wink )!

QR1:  James Marsalek WR 668 defeated (q3) Laurynas Grigelis (LTU) WR 379 by 4 & 5  biggrin (but 3 points only if he qualifies! furious )

Divij Sharan (WR 955) or the q8, Filip Veger (WR 560), in the FQR (it's a 16-man draw).

MP at 40-30. Loses it. 40-40.

Advantage Grig. Saves the BP. Back to deuce.

MP James. Misses the first serve. But wins !

Game, set and match.

Got to be in it to win it

That result is certainly a bit of a surprise but a very pleasant one. The only downside is that unless he wins tomorrow as well he doesn't get anything for it.

Well, noting tangible maybe.

But gives him the confidence and knowledge that he's not just another 25 year-old 10k player but can compete at the higher level.

Could well be worth more than 3 points or a few hundred dollars.

The q8 it is:

FQR:  James Marsalek WR 668 vs (q8) Filip Veger (CRO) WR 560 (CH = 478 in February)

James has nowt to lose - except maybe three points (no prize money! disbelief ) ...

Big big win for Marzi there. Fantastic result.

SC - A win in the FQR would guarantee him prize money. Although it shows 0 on the Qualifying sheet, there is of course prize money for 1st round losers in the MD. In Heilbronn this week for example, which is also a 42.500 (although +H) the 1st round losers get 440 so Marzi would guarantee himself at least this by winning the FQR.
