It's a fair point, RJA, as the wildcard is a favour and so you can choose who to bestow your favours on.
But I didn't see anything in the new guidelines about 'level, attitude, and offences committed 7 years ago'.
And I do hope the 'holier than thou' attitude covers explaining why you spend £12k on a sofa, why the AELTC have a cash balance of £30m, what the whole accounting thing going on is with the new LTA Trust, the 'aggregate emoluments' figures in the balance sheet etc. etc.
Well the guidelines don't say that a convicted rapist wouldn't ever get a wild card either but I think we can all agree it wouldn't happen. The guidelines are just that, they don't cover any and every possibility. NB Before anyone takes this the wrong way I am not comparing Klein to a convicted rapist.
I don't think you have to be in the "holier than thou brigade" to see why the powers that be might think that handing a wild card to a man with a history of racist abuse might not send the best possible message. We also don't know who made the decision. The LTA may well have recommended him for a wild card on tennis grounds only for the AELTC to say no due to his past. I also don't see what the amount of cash that the AELTC has in the bank has to do with this although £30 million does not seem an excessive amount to me.
Fair points, RJA, I was rambling on rather disjointedly ----
I guess the bottom line here is that if GB tennis was in a good, healthy state, no one would really bitch'n'moan about the wildcards, or the powers that be's attitude to them, because we'd all be focussing on which British players were going to make the second week, whether we'd beat last years crop who made the second week etc. etc.
As it is, and for whatever reason, the state of GB tennis still looks horribly thin when compared to similar countries and so every action is under the spotlight, including Klein's wildcard, or not, and the spending of the money, or not, etc. etc.
I thought I read that the AELTC were no longer taking recommendations from the LTA on the wildcards which if true we can't really blame the LTA for Klein not getting a WC. Even so with his troubled history maybe it's better for him to make him work for it and even if you give him a WC to not be in the initial batch.
On an the double WC it's much better going to the Brits and especially the better known ones because it provides a better experience for the people attending. It's not like any of the big name single players will really be entering and all the top doubles players will already be in so giving it to Brits who the public will be more likely to know so can get behind them better is better. And doubles can be much less predictable than singles so there is a better chance of a Brit WC getting through in doubles than they are likely to in singles (Didn't Boggo reach the QF or something one year, although maybe that was in Mixed)
How many double junior GS doubles winners have we produced other than Kyle, he does have some pedigree in fact probably the best in terms of junior performance of all our entrants. Would like to see Brydam at Roehampton, to justify a MD wildcard I think he would have to be clean on the behavior front and do a bit more before its contemplated
Disappointed Brydan hasn't got a wild card- at least yet. Given he beat Ward easily in Surbiton he should have one.
Also pleased to see Marray/Nielsen back together- can lightening strike twice?
I think it's a crying shame that Klien wasn't given a wild card. The players were told to prove themselves on grass which really on him and Josh have done. Think the stuffiness and blue blazer brigade could do with taking a leaf out of football and rugby for allowing people who have made a mistake in their past a chance to prove themselves
Doubles with some really good ones - and good point Oakland2002 that Mr Edmund played some decent doubles as a junior ... though he wasn't as accomplished as Mr Broady (Wimbledon title, AO title, two Trofeo Bonfiglio (Grade A) titles, Orange Bowl title, Orange Bowl final, Eddie Herr finals, and two USO QFs. In fairness, Mr Broady's partners may also have had something to do with all this!)

I think it's astonishing Ward has a doubles wild card there can be no justification for that whatsoever complete mockery. Just goes to show Doubles for the low level of the Sport that it is. Shameful.
Thanks for that so Corrie/Edmund and Broady/Bambridge looking pretty exciting doubles combinations that should be fun to watch, I think we get distracted, singles tennis is the draw, doubles tennis fleshes out the tournament but really doesn't hold the attention of the GS audience who are generally only excited when a name they recognise is playing. There has to be an X factor to draw fans and create an atmosphere off the show courts even at a packed Wimbledon, this combos wil draw crowds and get fans watching doubles in the first week. Hey they might even win a game or two.
Brydan I feel is in the right spot for him and indeed his tennis, qualification, the LTA haven't invested a fortune in his development and what would be best for it would be to win through and earn a first round spot.
I think it might be counter productive to give him a wild card for the main draw which would essentially be a reward for getting kicked out of Australian tennis and switching allegiance, hey if he had gone of his own free will as an 18 yr old for the glory of representing the empire, sorry Australia, Yorkshire are a better sporting nation I'm off to train in Bradford that would be an altogether different matter. He didn't, it's not further punishment for his past just part of the clean sheet he should get playing under the Union Jack as an ATP touring pro, he just needs to become one and winning through qualification in his mid 20s will help him.
Also pretty happy with the singles wildcards awarded, they are all pretty rational representing present rankings, commitment and potential. Wildcard playoff also, the inform players will have the best chance of progressing. No gripes here, just looking forward to the tennis.
OK. At risk of making myself look like an idiot (as usual), I am going to stick my neck out and go for Luke from the top half and Marcus from the bottom half.
