And were I Spears and Lipsky, I would definitely be miffed that my (ALT) draw happened to consist of two people who have multiple mixed GSs between them (all right, most of them are on the Raymond side .... but it sounds better that way).

OK, I've again lost interest in this silliness.

All the best to the Brits though.

Edit : and all the best to Lisa by association and what wolf said and to Katarina too.

Rather a nice story about Ms Raymond's exceedingly brief retirement: www.nytimes.com/2015/09/04/sports/tennis/a-defeat-retirement-then-a-win-all-in-a-day.html

Earlier comments on Dom's draw wishful thinking, I guess, though he & Katarina gave it a pretty good go:

R1:  (7) Raquel Kops-Jones & Raven Klaasen (USA/RSA) CR 43 (17+26) defeated Katarina Srebotnik (SLO) & Dom Inglot CR 50 (11+39) by 7-6(3) 3-6 [10-5]  cry

Jamie and Lisa are a mini break down in the MTB.

But what a great place to finish your career for Lindsay

not really looked at it before but the format is daft, a lottery unless it's a real mismatch. If a decent game of tennis breaks out you have a tie break just in case it persists!!

A great shame as I think mixed doubles is a very healthy concept for lots of reasons and it would be good to have a show piece event, I understand the logistics are a night mare but the way it is shoe horned into the U.S. Open it would be much more convenient to just forget the tennis and have a tie break.

Just popping back to this silly mixed doubles place to say all good wishes to Lisa and hope she still enjoyed her second retirement match in a few days All the best to her for the future and it appears that she wants to give back to the sport and work to help others.

Indeed, Oakland re the scoring system with no Ad too ! So as well as the MTB bringing a fairly abrupt end to some of the more interesting competitive matches, no Ad stops the danger of any epic crucial games breaking out.

I may be no lover of mixed doubles, but if its here, have a proper scoring system  ( i.e. use the wonderful scoring system we have, particularly Ad ) or it's rather demeaned as a supposed major title.
