Two top 50 players, Aljaz's rise this year has really generated the attention it deserves, it has been politely reported and has sort of sneaked up on me.

I know I would be all over his game if he had come up through the British junior system allied with the fact that he is an adopted son of Welwyn Garden City which (having driven through it is also neatly underwhelming) is stamped on my passport plagues me with guilt and a duty to try harder. I think I may have been Catholic in my last life and apologise as an atheist utilising the forum as a confessional but needs must.

My New Years resolution ie post Davis cup is to try and follow a bit more of Aljaz's tennis on clay, I find his game on other surface really neat but underwhelming, a bit of a theme here, but just love the way he has always been a consummate professional and just got on with things since becoming British. Ie a fantastic role model.

Three QR1 matches played so far, three qualy seeds out:  Haase (q5), Ramos (q6) & Gimeno (q12)!  I hope to God Aljaz doesn't succumb to the curse!

And Sergiy Stakhovsky (q8) fails to buck the trend, succumbing in three to ERV (WC).

R1:  (4) Jamie Murray & John Peers CR 15 (7+8) vs BYE

R1:  Rafael Nadal & Leander Paes (ESP/IND) CR 133 (97+36) vs Dom Inglot & Robert Lindstedt (SWE) CR 52 (29+23)

And here's a turn-up for the books, make of it what you will:

R1:  Colin Fleming & Andy Murray CR 232 (56+176) vs Alexander Peya & Bruno Soares (AUT/BRA) CR 52 (28+24)

We all know Andy's a better doubles player than his formal doubles ranking suggests. wink

What I make of it is that Andy wants to play some doubles matches before Davis cup. Both brother Jamie and Dom have set partners, also Colin wouldn't make the cut without Andy's singles rating.

Play suspended on Aljaz's match due to a leaking roof

Ajaz draws first blood, taking the first set by 7-6(2). smile

That was by no means a "gimme".  Lost count of the match points that came & went.  Aljaz had to come from a break down in the second set & was broken while serving for the match at 5-3.
