Josh Milton and Fratangelo also won their first round doubles match, 6-4 7-6(5)

So that's 4 Brits (and an Irishman) through to the quarter-finals in the doubles so far, with 4 more yet to play (although those four are all playing the 1st or 2nd seeds)

L16:  (Q) Stefan Kozlov (USA) WR 409 (CH = 354) vs (Q) Dave Rice WR 530

Kozlov is 17 & was born in Skopje (Macedonia), but now lives in the charmingly named Pembroke Pines in Florida.  He was also the q6 who beat Marcus in three sets in the FQR, so Dave had better watch out!

Kozlov was the runner-up at the junior Aus Open and junior Wimbledon last year and was world junior no. 2 in January, while still only 16, soon after winning the Orange Bowl - he has only played senior events since then.

This will be a very tough match for Dave. But you never know!

Perhaps he should ask Marcus for a few tips!  wink

Very nice win for Dave in R1, but I always worry in the match directly after a big upset. Especially against somebody like Kozlov who has a lot of talent. Hope he fares well.

OK, I'm 99% sure I'll have to eat my words but, from the little I saw of Kozlov over the summer when he was here, I wasn't too impressed.

He's seems incredibly well schooled (well done to his father who is a huge, ever-present force, runs a tennis academy, and has obviously taught his sons really well), and has lots of good qualities, but it didn't strike me as anything that amazing (although it's hard when you watch him - he's so young in his face that it's rather difficult not to be influenced by that).

Anyway, Dave obviously (up till this week) has hardly been having a purple patch either so Kozlov must certainly be the favourite. But.......

I saw Kozlov play Marcus and he played a lot of serve and volley and has a big forehand, but Dave should be able to cope with that and I suspect will give him a decent match.

In the singles, yes.

But Dan and Darren and Josh and Joe are still in the doubles.

Let's hope the schedulers take note and don't put both matches on at the same time.
