RE: Week 44 - Challenger ($50,000+H) - American Express de Banco de Guayaquil, Guayaquil, Ecuador (clay)

James got broken again but now has 3 break back points ... which sadly trickle away one by one Here's a 4th though - also saved ... then soon afterwards, James saves a game point with a nice pass. A double fault brings up a 5th break point - James queries an out call (I thought it was in too, but it was on the far side and the stream quality is dreadful, so who knows) and now Diego has another game point, which he finishes off with a smash

James has had 8 break points in this match and has taken just 1, whereas Diego has only had 2 but has taken both of them.

6-7(4) *1-4

Double fault from his opponent gifts James a 5th BP of the game. Ward misses by an inch with a pass, DS hits an ace, and a lofty defensive shot from James is smashed away. Ward down *1-4, and I can't help feeling he's missed his chance there

Ahh beaten to it by the pro himself. I shall step aside and focus on the stream! Good to see you round again Steven, as always :)

So James goes down 7-6(4) 6-3

Certainly wasn't a million miles away today against a tricky customer, but just not clinical enough on the BP chances he had. Here's hoping for a better draw next time out

Thanks, but I had to leave so I'm glad you didn't really give up! (sadly, James looked a bit like he had in the last few points I saw)

I agree with your last post.

Indeed Wardy wasn't particularly enamoured with himself, calling himself a f****** c*** on a couple of occasions, once he lost those 5BPs he never looked like getting back into it really.

One thing I would say is that James looked far more fired up than he usually does. He did well and really this match was only down to a couple of points here and there. Encouraging non-the-less.

Agreed there Jaffa, definitely seemed to be a bit more pumped up (at least, until the last couple of games I thought), and considering the quality of his opponent on that surface, he did well
