Phew. I am watching the stream from the next court and heard a big round of applause so thought she must have won but there was an agonising 20 second wait for it to come on live score.
I could hear Kundalini screaming "hit a first serve" at *6-5 second serve.
Interesting that Naomi got the win despite what looks from the stats to have been a modest serving performance. Poor at saving break points (1/5), unimpressive first serve percentage (52%), missed her first serve on the first match point.
Having said that, she did well when she managed to land her first serve, winning 75%.
Yes, the serve percentage deteriorated as the match went along; by sets: 64%, 58%, 42%
Also the 4 Aces and one DF of set 1 had reversed to 1 Ace and 3 DF by set 3.
Impressive that Naomi managed to dig out the win despite that trend and, once again, probably underlines the general trend behind success with her game style, which is to get in done in 2 wherever possible (Although, of course, that applies to everyone, you get the idea!)
So did Ana Ivanovic practice with Naomi over the winter break, given she was living in Manchester with current boyfriend Schweinsteiger ? I rather hope she didn't.
Apparently Ana trains at Bolton now, when she's not travelling the world. Think Naomi trains at Didsbury and Sports City so perhaps they managed to avoid each other.
Anyway, good to start the year with wins over some decent players, given she wasted promising positions in quite a few of her defeats towards the end of last season.
By my calculation, Naomi had 6 top 100 wins prior to this season, with a max of 2 in a calendar year (2015, 2011). Got 2 already in 2016. Hoping for a lot more this year.

The TennisAbstract figures are taken from the official feeds, it takes a bit of messing about to find what options there are, and then creating the correct data set you want, and the UI is horrible (for example the static labels don't change to reflect the set you select, so it looks as though it doesn't apply to what you want) and all in all it takes quite a bit of getting used to.., but it is very reliable! and pretty invaluable for the detail it can provide.!
