Very enjoyable match, and hopefully a silver lining, to fully recover, and get to Melbourne rather than get bogged down more in Hobart.
Ironically she played really rather well in this match, and pretty horribly in the match she won.
Which Hev emerges as the dominant and more frequent one will most likely determine the success of her season.
Think that the win over Niculescu should mean she won't drop so far as to miss out on Indian Wells or Miami, so the hit to her ranking points shouldn't be too bad, as long as she can make a decent showing in Melbourne. The real disaster would have been if she'd missed out on entry for IW, as that's where her next decent score came from last year.
She drops to about 79. I think that's too far too be in IW and M main draws. The positive of playing Qualies in IW would be a chance to score points against pretty low ranked opponents, whereas usually you are thrown in the deep end at those two American tournaments.
Last year 85 for IW and 79 for Miami. 2014 it was 79 for both. In 2013 84 and 78
Miami main draw entry comes after new Aus Open points included. Indian Wells starts on a wednesday so it may also be 6 weeks after Aus Open, though I'm not sure on this.
