Q2: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 3 425 def CRUZ, Ana Luiza (BRA) UNR 6-1 6-1

Q3: WEBLEY-SMITH, Emily (GBR) 3 425 v PEREZ ROJAS, Guadalupe (ARG) 11 515 CH=410 18/5/15

R1: CARRERAS, Amanda (GBR) 310 v HADDAD MAIA, BEATRIZ (BRA) 4 246 CH=148 15/6/15

I wonder why Amanda decided to tour the hard courts S.America rather than the £25Ks in USA that are played on clay.

I suspect it's because tournaments in the USA are always highly competitive + full of under-ranked players, most of whom Mandy would probably lose to more often than not. That said, picking tournaments based on estimated strength doesn't protects you from tough draws, as we can see here.

I think that she's chosen the right tournaments, it's just that the draw gods are against her. The MDs are even harder in the USA and she would have to play 2 or 3 tricky qualifiers just to get there.

Misses 4 individual set points at 5_3* and immediately broken to 30. Sigh

Match ''interrupted'' whilst Em has break point on her opponent's serve at 4-5 in the final set. If she win0s the next point (adv Em ) she levels the match

Em's been behind the whole way since winning the first and saved two match points. Absolute slog of a match.

Good news - broke back, held serve. Went to tie break and Em held her nerve to win.

Big win for Em, veen a while since she ground out a result like that, having lost a lot of tough matches over the past year.

Hopefully a bit of a boost even if pointswise its not worth anything.

Top seeds in doubles but a tricky opener - their opponents have played together several times

Watching some of the stream today the courts do look very slow as Em said on instagram. Certainly much slower than last eeek.
