Well Done Maia
It was a successful tournament for GB thanks to wcs.

Indeed, sensible WCs, very well used. I am not aware of anyone against such WCs at this level.

Great week for Maia.

Good to have Katie B back. She'll soon be back up to where she was.

Maia set to start shortly. The bookies have the match very tight, but Maia a slight favourite.

Would have thought Zaja would be the favourite - but best of luck to Maia - she'll certainly have the crowd behind her !

The result today won't come close to outweighing the many positives for Maia from a successful week.

F: (WC) Maia LUMSDEN (GBR) 1037 lost to Anna ZAJA (GER) [6] 501 4-6 3-6

I expect the young, hungry GB contingent will perform even more pleasingly well on all fronts in Sunderland.
We might hope, driving each other on, like the Czech or German generations

Shame, but was a step up. Onwards and upwards.

Pity, but still a very good week for Maia with some comprehensive wins and she looks to me to have a very consistent good all round game.

Now will go up to 14 points on Monday week, clearly a big CH for now, around the 880s. And she is just one of quite a number of our girls that with more tournaments can shoot up the rankings.

Well done to Maia, Manisha, Emily and Katie B. smile

Rant continued - no unranked British player got a point - the above mentioned are good enough to score anywhere in 10ks - what are domestic 10ks for?

Looking at the list for Sunderland not likely any unranked player will get one next week either. Admit Katie B found it useful but events shouldn't be for exceptions.

We need more 10ks but the scheduling must be better to give homegrown talent a chance - end of rant wink

just to mention, as it's as rare as hens' teeth, that Maia (who, I'm 99% sure, has no LTA funding contract) will have tapped into the infamous Bonus Top-Up pool, thanks to this Finalist place (assuming it's still in place, as last year, because it's still up on the site, but with 2015 marked next to it). £450 it says.....

Anyway, hopefully there is a flutter of moths as the cash-register goes kerching
