The Aussie WC goes to Hon. They usually have a WC playoff and Issy Wallace won it last year, but they must have just given it to the highest ranked non entrant this year.
So that's Hon, Davis, Albie and Ponchet, with 4 more French players (you'd assume) to be announced.
Any idea who has won the equivalent Male wild cards , ace ?
Main Draw: Audrey Albie Diane Parry Chloe Paquet Jessika Ponchet Harmony Tan Selena Janicijevic Priscilla Hon Lauren Davis
Qualifying: Margot Yerolymos Alize Lim Manon Leonard Elsa Jacquemot Myrtille Georges Cori Gauff Loudmilla Bencheikh Tessah Andrianjafitrimo
Full list there. Not too familiar with Janicijevic, but she's a 2002, so they have gone with youth over the some of the usual crowd like Georges and Hesse. Paquet and Tan were expected in addition to the guaranteed Ponchet and Albie, and Parry did quite well in quals last year. Nice to also see them rewarding Cori Gauff with a QWC being last years girls winner - I can't remember the last time they did that. Looks like Hesse has been overlooked completely.

Hesse might get into the doubles draw...after all, why would you continue to reward her in singles when others can be given the chance? (A bit like Bogdanovic and Wimbledon WC's)

I'm not necessarily saying I would have rewarded her if there were more suitable candidates, but she is 2 and a half years younger and much higher ranked than Alize Lim, and unlike Lim, has actually won a singles main draw match in her career. If I was a 26 year old Frenchwomen, ranked circa 250, with generally modest competition, I'd have hoped for a QWC, especially over someone who's 29 in 2 months, lost all 4 of her MDWC matches to date and currently outside the top 400.
Hadn't looked at Lim tbh but that does seem odd if Lim is worse on several levels!
Yeah, I think Lim is generally well regarded by the FFT for some reason, but the only tennis related thing I can think of is Hesse did end a fairly long losing streak recently and Lim reached a W25 semi final last month, but is still over 100 places below Hesse in the Race rankings.
And, as said, not surprised that they threw another youngster in too - it's their way.
Always pretty amazing to see a completely WTA unranked player in the MD of a Grand Slam (Parry, at least, is WTA top 500).
But well done to Selena Janicijevic (she's the girl that Lissey Barnett beat in Joue-les-Tours). She won a G1 juniors recently but has done nothing in the couple of adult tournaments she's tried. Must be the favoured one at the moment....
Else Jacquemot in the qualis is born 2003. Manon and Loudmilla are also juniors.
Hesse is a mega surprise. I can only think that her family has fallen out with the new powers that be. Her mother is 7th in the world at the moment, used to be number 1 for ages, is/was national champion, ex-top player, major presence in French tennis. And her dad is a major coach, big noise, lots of kudos. But Amandine has never quite lived up to the hype and is having a difficult year.....
I see Evan F is about 50 places lower than he was this time last year when he got a QWC so has been overlooked (unless last years was for performance in some sort of league), but you'd have to think given the current men's landscape here, if he did switch in the future, then he would be a likely candidate for a QWC being 20 and in the top 500.
Yes. It's a good point. Rather like Naiktha, do you want to get swamped in the general mass or do you want to stand out a little more in a country with less depth and equally good Grand Slam?
However, Evan, I'm sure, feels far more French - he's always been there, born and grown up there.
But there comes a point when business savvy also kicks in. I wonder what his dad's view is.....
Amandine is not impressed by her lack of wildcard but says you might as well laugh...... (don't think she means it.......)

When Tara ( then WR 214 ) was not mentioned in the 2017 Wimbledon WCs I recall her tweeting to the effect that she was still alive and well and playing tennis.
