The videos are much appreciated. And, like Optimist, I feel for Cirstea, too. What happened was not her fault, and she's clear that Ms Konta was the better player - she's just, immediately after something that was quite emotional for her as well, being asked to comment on rather unprecedented circumstances. And it is unusual: I would not normally feel that suspending a match because a player is emotional is correct - what makes it exceptional is that the proximate cause for the emotion was unacceptable action by a member of the opposing team, which should have resulted in immediate action to end the match anyway.
There is also something cultural at play: if you do not know Britain well enough, you do not realise that 'Sorry' is the universal response to anything mildly embarrassing or difficult, even if we are not in the wrong. So if you think that 'Sorry' means 'I admit that I have done something wrong' not 'I'm frightfully embarrassed and really do feel for the situation you were put in', you may well think that I am admitting that I have engaged in gamesmanship.
Very impressed by Anne Keothavong as captain.
After all that, I hope the next day's session can proceed in a way that honours the excellence of both sides.
Halep was too good today and comfortably outplayed Jo apart from the start of the second set.
Based on the last couple of days I don't expect Jo to be winning any of the big clay court titles, but she can still have some success playing her hard court style game on the clay as there aren't many players who will be able to expose her inability to move as well on clay in the way that Halep can.
It will be tough for Heather against Begu too, but if she starts like she did yesterday and puts Begu under pressure she will have a chance of winning.
