Meanwhile Kubot and Melo are out ... so currently no one ahead of Murray and Soares in live rankings is still in. The Bryans, though, are still there and still a potent threat.
It got a little scrappy from the middle of second set. Murray and soares missed 4 or 5 match points before scraping through to a tiebreaker which they won comfortably.
It does sound as if Bruno was less than totally focussed on the job in hand !
Kontinen is now guaranteed to remain WR 1 post R-G in spite of his R1 exit with Peers. Jamie and Bruno could get up to WRs 2 & 3, just 70 points behind, by the small matter of winning the title.
Bop & Cue got through it seems - much as it is interesting to see the seeded decimation, it looks like Jamie and Bruno have the toughest section of the draw ahead of them unfortunately...
Proper little prognosticator, I am ... or perhaps not.
Some interesting third round matchups: Robredo/Marrero v Cabal and Farah; Rojer/Tecau v Dodig/Granollers (whom I would say I thought might win it all ... but (a) I don't want to jinx innocent parties and (b) I like Rojer and Tecau and would love to see them win); the match with Mr Murray and Mr Soares; and Verdasco/Zimonjic v Groth and Linstedt. And then the interest at the bottom with Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson. It's notable that the seeds may have tumbled - but there are still quite a few former world #1 individuals and year-end world #1 teams floating around in that draw.
Job done as Jamie/Bruno take the 2nd set as well, this time 6-2
One of the advantages of being in Brazil is that if there is a Brazilian on court, it is on TV, even if it from an outside court so I got to see most of the match. The guys played particularly well in the 2nd set.

QF: (5) Jamie Murray & Bruno Soares (BRA) CR 17 (8+9) vs Santiago Gonzalez & Donald Young (MEX/USA) WR 251 (71+180), in on Young's singles WR 51, beat Kyrgios & Thompson in R3, the pair who beat (2) Herbert & Mahut in R1.

Not sure where mixed doubles fits, but Dom Inglot and partner are now in the quarters of the mixed doubles. So, we have Andy, Jamie and Dom all left in as we enter the second week. Good luck guys
