I've just seen the sad news that Kyle has decided to retire. https://www.lta.org.uk/news/former-british-no.1-and-world-no.14-kyle-edmund-decides-to-call-time-on-his-tennis-career/
Just seen it on Twitter. He had so much more to achieve in a career blighted and cut short by injury. You can hear the pain in his voice in the interview.
I was a real pleasure to follow his journey up the rankings, from seeing him in that Murcia Futures event as an unranked 17yo, to watching him win ATP Titles and be part of the winning DC team in Belgium.
Thanks for the memories Kedders, and all the best for the future ... whatever that holds.
Wonder what's next for Kedders. Not sure how much tv work is out there but I could see him coaching. He's also an intelligent guy who could go to uni and study for something totally different, but uni ain't cheap these days.
Maybe could also work for his dad - as I recall he had his own business, don't know if that's still the case.

His profile says he earnt $6m in prize money plus presumably more in additional deals etc - and he lived in Bermuda or somewhere to save tax. So hopefully money isnt his main issue at this stage.

Moved to the Bahamas but presumably back home now as he talked of spending time back home with his family. I presume once he dropped down the rankings Bahamas was no longer affordable. Not sure how much of the $6m would have gone on coaching, travel, hotels etc.
Sad to read this news but completely understandable. Ive enjoyed following his tennis career and its a shame that injuries have cut it short. Good luck Kyle with the next step in your career.
Gutted at how things panned out for Kedders. Things were really looking up for him at the start of 2020, having just won his second ATP title at the age of 25. I remember thinking that he had a real chance of another deep run at one of the slams.
Then Covid and injuries hit and that was that really. I watched a bit of a futures match he was playing at a tournament in Italy in early May, and could sense that the writing was maybe on the wall. One sided straight sets loss to a guy ranked in the 400s in front of precisely zero spectators, not even any stands for people to sit and watch. Must have been demoralising, given what a beast he was on the dirt at his very best.
Kyle's dad Steven used to be a semi-regular poster on here while Kyle was tearing through the futures & challengers in the mid 2010s, and on his way to the top. I remember he popped on here back in 2018/2019 when there was a bit of criticism about the Bahamas tax haven move, pointing out that tennis is a short and expensive career + you never know when injury can strike and it's all over. Words that carry a certain extra poignancy now.
While a sig amount of that $6 mil career prize money will have been eaten up by tax + the costs of employing the kind of team that top 50 players need from 2017-2020, hopefully Kyle still has a bit in the bank. I'm sure he would have had decent LTA support to help with some of those costs, plus I imagine he must have had a couple of decent sponsor deals for two years.
Will be interesting to see where he goes now. I interviewed him twice for UK nationals during that breakout run in 2018. As something of an introvert, my impression was that he never seemed fully at ease with the media, in the same way that others like Dan Evans and Liam Broady usually embraced interviews, so I can't quite picture him enjoying the punditry life. Wouldn't be surprised if he's offered a spot on the Wimbledon sofa next summer, but he's a very intelligent guy and I can also see him going into something totally different
