I'm a big nick fan - love players that are different. But then my faves of all time are Mac, condors, gerulaitus ( he could have taught evo a few things ), leconte, noah, Becker. Give me charisma anytime and let's not destroy it by cracking down too hard
Naomi Broady says in her Radio broadcast that Kyrgios is in fact a really 'nice guy' and a 'big softy'
Just saying.....
I like Nick but fear he might be another Monfils - often injured, prone to trick shots, wildly talented but doesn't harness potential.
Yes, he can be a total idiot - not disputing that. But we have all been 23 and an idiot, I'm older than that and still one! Except it doesn't get reported because I'm not famous.
Yes. I agree. I don't have any real problem with Kyrgios: he's young and a bit of a prat (the two often go together) but he's honest and I even admire some of his comments.
I have more problem with players like Fognini - very talented, handsome, but arrogant - AND old enough, in spades, to know better.
The Italian has just been fined $24k for three separate offences, including insulting the umpire. It's obnoxious and shows a lack of any desire to rein it in.
I agree. If it was Nick then he would have been banned. Bet Fognini will just pay the fine and continue you. Double standards.
Except he didn't. He was, according to the papers, suspended pending investigation, which (they say) should remove him from the doubles tournament. Given his behaviour, this seems eminently reasonable if it is in fact the result. And, if it is the result, it benefits Nick Monroe and JP Smith, who will go through to the QFs - two consummate professionals, who one often hears are greatly respected for their work ethic and general demeanour, and for whom the added money and points will make a real difference. The only person I feel for is Mr Bolelli - but it was his choice to play with Mr Fognini.

Yes, taken out of the doubles.
But bit strange when you read the letter (below) that there was/is an ongoing Major Offence investigation into his first round match and yet he was allowed to continue in doubles even so...

The other players are NOT happy...
I've seen one of his loud and public rants referred to as 'foul-mouthed' and as his 'latest profane misogynistic outburst'.

I think his behaviour can be mixed off-court.
I don't think Naomi typifies attitudes in the WTA. She is a bit rough and ready compared with the average pro tennis player. If say, Caroline Garcia said Nick is a lovely guy in her opinion, it would carry something more.
Good win for Jamie and Bruno , into the last 8 now. Playing Rojer and Tecau next. Jamie is also up to 9th in the live rankings after that win, albeit he started in 6th of course. Could potentially climb up to 5th by end of the fortnight.
Looking at Jamie's career stats, it is really only 2015 and 2016 that he has broken through as a force; US Open is v clearly his best slam overall, 68% win ratio, well above the other slams. Clearly he likes the hardcourts of all the surfaces and clearly he has an affinity for New York. Good luck to him, last GB player standing and still fighting on two fronts.

John Peers and Bruno Soares say "Hi"
Or at least a settled partnership with a good doubles player you can combine well with says "Hi" since Jamie undoubtably has played his full part. But settled partnerships to me has been a huge thing in Jamie's success over the last two or three years ( and his much earlier first real truly significant rise through the top 100 with Eric Butorac ).
Having broken the top 100 for the first time in 2006 ( up to WR 77 ) he combined with Eric to rise to WR 28 by the time of the 2017 US Open, which I think is when they last played together, at least at all regularly.
He then spent more than 5 years without any real settled partnership, a few months with Jamie Delgado about as far as that ever got. He dropped out of the top 100 at one point, did get up to a then CH 23 in 2011 but essentially seemed to faff around through many many partners and his ranking would rise and fall. I recall Madeline particularly wanting to fling her cushions at him !
He started 2013 ranked 75 and in February teamed up with John. By the end of the year he was ranked 30, a consistent but not spectacular 2014 saw him go up to 26 and end 42. Then real breakthrough in 2015 brought two Slam finals and a rise to WR 7.
And then they split and many thought oh no, not after all that time without a regular partner and now he's kept with one for over two years and how it had latterly blossomed.
But he very soon teamed up with Bruno and of course even greater success has followed with two Slam.titles and the individual and pair #1 spots.
Anyway, be very good but also find a very good partner ( for you )

Indeed and long may it continue. I see Jamie is on Grandstand for his mens doubles today and also the Bryans are on there as well, with Kontinen and Peers on Louis Armstrong (nearly said Lance...). Surprised they didnt showcase Bryans brothers at this stage of the event. Similarly yesterday, thought Delpo and Thiem deserved to be on one of the two main courts and not on Grandstand.
Re Jamie and consistent pairings - feels like Dom Inglot has been going through that faffing around stage this past two seasons and could really do with a consistent partner to give it a go with; again, must suit his gamestyle, but there must be someone out there for Dom!
