Yes Ryan Peniston is playing in a strong looking Essex team with Marshall Tutu, Rob Carter, Henry Patten and David Wright etc. Will be surprised if anyone can beat them. Surrey could have a really strong team but don't look at full strength, Mark Whitehouse at no.1 with Andrew Watson no.2 Alex Jhun at no.3 Should be a straight shootout for the title Surrey vs Essex
Results from first day in Division 1.
Yorkshire beat Surrey 5-4
Essex beat Lincolnshire 8 - 1
Too early to tell but maybe not a straight shootout between Surrey and Essex........

Lancs top group 2a. Group 2b still in play currently top are a strong Kent team with players Matt Summer and James Davis back from Denver whilst Herts don't have any of their college players ( Charlie Broom, David Stevenson, James Wilkinson, Jake Penny, Dan Martin and Matt Carroll) in the team.....

It is not all about the top divisions. Worth mentioning, I think, that Lissey Barnett went to Shrewsbury for two days to help Gloucestershire get promotion to Division Four
Winter County Cup starts Friday 10th and is a one-off Event played over 3 days.
The 44 counties are placed in 22 groups of 4 counties per gender. These groups are placed in order of the previous years results with Group 1 being the premier league. Wherever possible, groups are allocated to venues to try and avoid the least amount of travelling time for all the teams within that group.
The match format is played on a round-robin basis with each team playing 6 singles and 3 doubles. All rubbers to be the best of 3 sets. Any 3rd set in the doubles rubbers shall be replaced by a Match Tie-break. Counties may nominate a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 players.
After two days of play the standings are Group 1 mens: Kent top the leader board with 4 points, Yorkshire and Essex both have 2 and Lancs 0. Today Essex vs Yorks and Lancs vs Kent - looks likely that a strong Kent team, (Anton, Jack P-J, James Davies, Matt Summer, Nick Brookes and Hugo C) will stay top after play today.
Great facilities at Bath and I spotted a familiar name on the Bath coaching team ; Tom Corrie : Regional Player Development Centre Head Coach https://www.teambath.com/sport/tennis/coaching-team/
Group 2 mens:Surrey and Herts both have 4 points, with Surrey ahead on rubbers. They will play each other today, as Will Middlesex and Derbyshire who are both on 0.
A friends son is there and said the courts are absolutely freezing- that should be incentive enough to try and gain promotion to group 1 and the luxury of the Bath tennis centre.
Maybe the cold is contributing to the number of retirements, Herts had 2 yesterday and Middlesex 1. This may impact Herts today as their team is very diverse, from college tennis players, to seasoned coaches (Neil Bamford) and a couple of players who are on the older side and dont seem to play regularly- my friend said its a shame those who were regular junior county players and still play at Uni/college werent contacted and asked to play or some of the 18U team

Thanks EP- that Kent team is strong wow. Do you know who is playing for Yorkshire this season at all?
btw is this just men or is there a womens event alongside it?
I see in the county Race standings Middlesex top it but Kent and Yorkshire are in the top mens division and they arent - could they be toppled in that league table ?
Mens Winter County Cup 2021 - results The winners of group 1 are Kent, with Lancs being demoted to group 2a next year. The winners of group 2a are Herts, with a fiercely competed 5-3 win over Surrey . Herts men will be back in group 1 next year.
