Jay had a decent month or two on the Americas clay but good to now get that first grass court win of the year.
Doesn't for now do anything to increase his ranking points, since his existing last counter is 6 points, the same as he gets for his QR1 win here, but the win's the thing and at least one further match.
Agreed, as I said on Cam's thread, I'm unsure how the balance of giving our up and coming (? in some cases) players WCs benefits them in the long run. Does the experience of playing a good player on a big stage win over the ranking points that they'd get if they were playing at their level, or just slightly above it?
I can't believe the bottom 8th of the draw.. Three of four players (Stan, Andy Kyle) that I'd have said had a shot at winning the title!
L28: (WC) Stan Wawrinka (SUI) WR 261 (CH = 3 in January 2014) vs (WC) Andy Murray WR 156 (CH = 1 in November 2016) L28: BYE vs Kyle Edmund WR 17 (= CH)
L28: (LL) Jay Clarke WR 223 vs Ryan Harrison (USA) WR 58 (CH = 40 in July last year)
