Suprised Scotland didn't arrange a friendly against England just in case we won WC so they could pretend they were world champions again!
We have had the World Number 1 in tennis I believe, a decent chap too, as opposed to a tax exile, didnt see it bounce twice guy.
Yep I love Murray and would cheer him to the hilt. Unlike all those pathetic 'friends' up North who cheer for the likes of Croatia. Sad!
Its interesting its only football where this applies though. Maybe searching for the reason might lead you to why this is. Arrogance, disrespect, ignorance, colonialism, gammonism (is that a word yet). Also a sense a humour. I didnt cheer Croatia winning, wouldnt have minded either way genuinely. It is however a sense of amusement seeing Lineker, Wright etc. Loved Roy Keane last night on telly as well.
Do you really think that it was only English people that were involved in colonialism? Do some quick research about Scottish people in the colonies. And how they tried their own colonial adventures too? Do you also despise the French, Germans, Italians, Chinese, Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch and Japanese for being colonials. I doubt it. There is as much disrespect of Scottish people over English people on social media as there is in reverse. But of course, theyre just being funny, so thats ok . Lineker and Wright admitted that Croatia was the better team. As have people here. But yes, apart from that youre right about everything as always and not just trying to be goady. .
Being Scottish I dont follow Cricket so dont cheer on anyone. Yes it has always amazed me how outside of Scotland nobody knows the truth about why our game is so unbalanced. Its the British/Irish Protestant/Catholic issue. We actually have Rangers fans cheering against Scotland, all bizarre but true.
Im not really into tribalism or patriotism hence why I dont cheer against anyone. Supporting Sportsmen is a personal choice rather than an allegiance of blind faith. Thats why Ive been critical of Konta and Edmund this Wimbledon. You cant just blindly support someone because they are British/Scottish/English in my opinion.

Of course you can! If I see Dart v Bencic I cheer for Dart because she is from the same country as me.
I cheer on Brighton because I was born and raised in Brighton it's my local club (or should I support Man City because they play good football and win everything?)
The World Cup has been awash with fans from all nations, blindly supporting the countries they are from. Been great !!!
With individuals, of course some other aspects can count. I was never a Colin Montgomerie supporter for instance, But I am a huge Andy Murray supporter and it's undoubtably not just because of his tennis or increasingly who he is as a man and mentor, but certainly where he is from.

Jaggy said 'blindly'. And I go with that.
Yes, if it's all neutral, then I cheer the brit, no question.
But if I have a reason to like bencic and her tennis, or not particularly like the brit and their tennis (never supported rusedski), then it changes. (although I,'ll always wish the brit well)
I think it's easier to 'blindly' support teams, rather than individuals.
Think youve misinterpreted that there Seagull. Ive supported the same league team all my days and they are an underdog in Scotland. Probably the most inclusive club in Scotland in a lot of ways. Im anything but a glory hunter. Also my local team too if you take away Rangers and Celtic actually. When it comes to individuals thats a different matter however. So would you support a British Tennis player if they were racist/arrogant/unlikeable etc? Thats what it sounds like.
Im not meaning any Tennis player in particular here, just using a general example.
I was pleased for Cibulkova beating Konta as I prefer her tennis and personality to Jo and there will probably be other examples. I remember bizarrely Boris Becker being supported over Miles Maclagan many years ago which is probably the weirdest exception when this happened at Wimbledon when you think of all things considered.

I used to support Steve Davis over Stephen Hendry at the Snooker, which is probably odd being Scottish. Agree about Monty as well, was never a fan. Andy is just a great guy overall, being Scottish is a bonus of course.
Well I can agree with you Jaggy over something. Andy is a fantastic guy.
Jay Clarke is showing a similar ability to work hard, doesnt come from privilege and carries himself really well. Im not saying hes going to reach any of the heights that Andy has tennis wise, but I think hell be a personality to be proud of.
Yes I agree about Jay, seems a great lad and a great family as well. I saw him in Glasgow last year with them. Right behind him all the way, nice to see the fun he and Harriet are having together at the doubles, quite a cute couple actually. Nice bit of extra money from the tournament as well from all 3 competitions he has been in.
Re tomorrow's singles semi finals, yes far from the most appealing line up. But anyway I hope that they result in a Nadal vs Anderson final.
Please not Isner. I admire what he has achieved with his generally relatively poor talent level in various areas. But that doesn't mean I want to watch him or see him in a Wimbledon final.
To be honest Indy in some ways Isner v Anderson might be better than one of them making it. Anderson v Nadal was the US Open final was it not and that was pretty poor. All 4 semi finalists over 31 as well is this a new record? Weve been saying for a few years that the game needs some new heavyweights but I think we ll still have Fed, Rafa and Novak with hopefully Andy for another 2 or 3 years yet.
Jack Draper plays his semi in the Junior boys today, good effort and only 16. I watched him at the Roehampton Futures last year, looks a real prospect.
