But when you say "Between 2010-13, GB had a run of 7 home ties in a row, which could just as easily have been 7 away ties in a row," doesn't that mean we could also have gone three years without a home draw ? Which also shows that there could be no home ties under the old format too?
Yes, but for 3 years not 10 (I don't know what the overall record for home or away ties is, but our 7 in a row can't be far off)
Not only that, but the 4 semi finalists will automatically qualify for the following year's final without having to participate in the Feb play-off. So even less chance of home ties for the top teams.

I took that into account in my calculations, Bob (plus the fact that the host team will automatically get home ties, albeit truncated 3-set 3-rubber single day ties)

Also worth noting as per telegraph report, match v Uzbekistan is effectively meaningless. Whatever happens Gb will be in the top 24 that play in the 12 ties next February. Apparently the 8 winners of next week's playoffs plus the 4 losing quarterfinalist s from April will be seeded the losing 8 in the play offs unseeded plus 4 from the zone 2 playoffs. so Gb playing for seeded status and no more.
Don't waste your money and avoid going to Glasgow I would suggest.

Calamitous.
This $3billion won't turn up either.
But the nations fans are the ones who have lost today. Ridden over completely as the national associations are bought.
Davis Cup RIP. You brought us some magnificent moments whilst you were with us. Terminally killed by the capitalists and the money men, but the fans and players will always remember you. Whatever rises in your ashes, it will be but a pale shadow.
This was a decision already known, hence the All England chairman's ****y pronouncement a couple of weeks ago whenever it was. The LTA vote against was purely a sop for public consumption, to strike an air of seeming independence. Scott LLoyd's job, in any case, is sorting out the problems here, not fooling around on the world stage.
Whatever it is now, it's not the Davis Cup. A complaint should be lodged with the Advertising Standards Authority and Fake Goods Bureau.
I don't know what people think of this but as most people have nailed their colours very strongly to their particular mast it's difficult to get a balanced view. Jon Wertheim (who is no fool) posted this (not guaranteeing it's a 'balanced' view but it does purport to give both sides):
See this one as well - https://twitter.com/Almighurt/status/1030546676086398976 and also Petchy's comments: https://twitter.com/_markpetchey/status/1030547231248707584
If this turns out to be true it would be scandalous and surely a sackable offence. Isnt it also a conflict of interests for Corrie to be working on behalf of Kosmos when an LTA Board member?
The federations have sold DC behind the fans backs. ITF the new FIFA. 99% of people are enraged by this decision. Most of the ex top pro's are saying they are disgusted.
Reading the rest of the German tennis federation chief's comments, he says nearly all the talk at the AGM was about money and hardly any about the other merits (or otherwise) of the scheme. Now that bit, sadly, I can definitely believe.

Purely on the question of money, is it true that the ITF are on the verge on bankruptcy?
Some say yes, some say no.
The ITF, I believe, say they are- hence the need to accept the money.
But surely if it's true, you wouldn't want to vote for what that board suggested because it is that very board who have shown they can't manage things properly?
