Just seen this on twitter "Katie Swan wins a grueling rally to set up MP, has a dry heaving episode at the back of the court, and then DFs. Later, misses two balls in the net and is back on serve from 5-1 up."
That's good sleuthing
hope her docs and team get her some immediate treatment.
But brilliant result.
Chiesa wasn't great at Chiswick, always a decent-ish chance. But no easy matches in Grand Slams. And that must have been REAL tough .....
Easy to forget that she is still so inexperienced at this level. Took a look at all our qualies ladies during that match and their number of wins above 25k level this year. Figures as follows:
Katie S 3
Katy D 7
Gabi 8
Naomi and Heather 11
Harriet 14
Katie B 16
Not fair comparisons obviously, but have to remember Katie S has been playing 25ks almost all of the last year, so this is a big step up :)
Fortunately I had first looked at the end so knew she had won. But if I had just read from the start I would no doubt have had a very abbreviated version of folk's feelings following on LS. But hey I knew she'd won.
I thought Chiesa had more experience at this level. She has a CH of 143 from a couple of months ago, got through qualifying at RG, and has played more higher level tournaments.
Proven wrong !
Edit: @ TheTraveller2 - forgot to mention - I saw a little bit of Chiesa's first round match at Chiswick, which is why I thought she would win

Not Brit related but hope young Ruse comes through her match which should be starting soon. She obviously did a fair bit of Brit bashing over the grass season but her match with Radwanska on the opening day of Wimbledon will live long. Was gutted when she couldn't see that match out.
Gutsy win from Katie S. I watched the score tick over, ... fighting off the break point to go 5-4 in the second set was a key moment. Have to admire the determination and skill to kick on in the decider, and break twice. So difficult to finish off games at that level, and in a Slam Quali too. Well done to her.

Well, we've got to nail our colours to the mast.....
Can only think about QR1 - after that it's all too much - but based on QR1 only, I'd say that I can't see Katy Dunne beating Ons Jabeur, Katie B should beat Naomi, I'll go for Gabi to beat Brengle (completely against seeding but why not), Heather should out-nouse young Coco, Katie Swan to beat Chiesa too (she didn't do very well at Chiswick), and I love both Harriet and Jaimee but I'll go for Harriet..... So that makes 5 (optimistic or what.....)
Hmm, too optimistic I think - 5 out of 6 would be some going. Unfortunately I think Katy would be 2nd favourite against pretty much everyone in the draw, it was always going to be tough, but pretty unfortunate for her to draw a top end seed. Brengle did win that awful Landisville tournament, but she was 1-1 with Gabi before retirement, so Gabi could / should take encouragement from that and Madison did then go on to lose in the first round of Vancouver, but I'd still make her (Brengle) a favourite, but not beyond Gabi.
I'm a bit more encouraged looking at Chiesa's general results since Wimbledon but I had thought she would be a bit too strong and she has made a bit more impact on the main WTA tour this year, albeit mainly on clay, but also playing Aussie, French (qualifying) and Wimby qualifiers will put her in better stead. Again, I'd make her favourite but could have been a worse draw for Katie S.
Really hope Katie gets past Naomi.
I was thinking the same TA, but Swan was actually made the betting favourite after I posted that.

Yes, not sure whether to be happy or sad that I wasn't able to follow that match (I think Katie was a set down when I had to go and do something else) but very well done to Katie for pulling through in the end.
It's a kind of Fed Cup re-run in this section now, isn't it - GB v JPN x 2, winners meet in the FQR.
