Halep entering the draw, then dropping out has also prevented Svitolina from playing here this week...
Could that have been deliberate?
I always think that for the last few weeks of the season, any player in the running for Tour Finals should get wildcards if needs be, if not to the main event then to qualifying. The Tours make the Tour Finals to be a big thing, the big thing, so should encourage players. I know that there is an argument they should have entered earlier or gathered the points already but at least in the final week or maybe 2 weeks I think there should be a recognition that these events are all about qualifying.
In the mens it goes without saying, as Paris is an M1000 event and thus all the players are entered and have to actively drop out - in which case it is there call. Maybe if Moscow was a Premier mandatory it would solve that in the ladies also?
Thanks, not sure how I missed that. I knew about her new management company. Well I wish them luck. I remember Andy saying having a new coach is like having a new girlfriend, you try to impress them initially, so I'll wait to see whether this works once the honeymoon period is over. I hope it does.
Good win for Harriet+, shooting down the #4 seeds in straight sets
Well done. Nice 100 points. So as well as live GB singles #4 Harriet is closing in on our top 4 in the doubles and indeed another win here would have her very close to Jo and with that close to the top 100.
Hopefully some of the doubles has helped her singles along in aspects of the game and more exposure to top level players and just building that confidence.
Overall she probably would have liked more singles wins of late but she had already got her ranking significantly up, had a bit of a window re relatively few points dropping off after July, and for instance easily into Australian Open qualifying, and has gained valuable experience at higher levels to take into the close season.

id say great win dart + potapova 121+122 beat schuurs + kalashnikova 8+74
real pleased for joko to her new dog probly more of an inspiring than any new coach yet this score be useful next year when the top 10 shackles come off adding to it even beter
So Kerber and Fissette have had a difference of opinion on their future together. Sounds familiar ......
Yes very familiar. An almost identical statement to that from Jo last year. Obviously Fissette does have strong views and does not necessarily accommodate the player that well. Still surprising though.
'In other news, reigning Wimbledon championAngelique Kerberhas split from coach Wim Fissette.
"Despite the success of the cooperation since the start of the season, this step is needed because of differences of opinion as the future direction," a statement read.'
Yes, even Jose Mourinho tends to last longer before good as he may be everything turns to tears.
But you do know everything will turn to tears eventually!
The key difference for me though, and this is interesting, is that Mourinho might be intense and demanding on players but the burden is sort of shared across the team, and the players can presumably talk it our behind his back - sort of ride it through longer before it becomes unsustainable. And the people who sack JM arent dealing with his intensity day in day out so are probably immune longer.
In tennis it is one on one so once the player cant stand it anymore, and they are the boss ultimately, there is only one winner and that is the player!

I doubt it, what's in it for Simona by doing that? It probably has more to do with this: https://twitter.com/CarosWrist/status/1044631518960922624 (there's a few comments)

Nice "compensation payments" for this being asked to play tennis tournaments malarkey.
Though I guess it could be if you aggravate an injury carrying out your top 10 duties.

Ah indeed, a cool $1 mill for entering and withdrawing... there is something wrong somewhere with this (and if I was Halep, I would have done exactly the same thing) ...

not saying this is why she miht have done it but a posiblle
simona 1-4 against svitolina in last 2 years not having her in singapore removes the bett noir oponent
in this case it be easy as theres no reason NOT to do it if you could remove a player that likely to have your number why shouldnt you some will argew its not a rule coz no one thawt that sort of thing might get abused and it lives under a presumption of "fair play"
but we seeing all round the world in all fields now - if it aint an exact rule but an agrement or spirit of the rule thing or a 'gentelmans agrement' type thing then people looking to abuse them to there advantage and say it not technical against the rules so all is fair game some say that shroowd i think it stinks
again please no sugestion that is what im saying simona definitely done
RE: Simona, I said on another forum that a million will not fix things if she seriously injuries herself. Her body is how she does her job. If that breaks, she can't work. I also kind of wonder if it's something to do with the WTA finals and where they are located in the world. Tennis still isn't that well attended in Asia overall which can be especially seen in regards to women's tennis when compared to men's.

Well, maybe. Maybe you're right. But there are lopsided h2h's all over the shop. And it's not as if Svitolina has had a great year all in all. Reasonable year but there has been a run of 3 set losses and underperformance at slams.
