Disappointed for Jay but hopefully whatever was going on previously has been sorted and it was just a bit of rust in having a few weeks off. Hope Wardy go far or Nagal will think he's a Brit basher.
L32: Yang Tsung-Hua (TPE) WR 268 (CH = 164 in May 2012) vs James Ward WR 201 (CH = 89 in July 2015) L32: (WC) Sumit Nagal (IND) WR 310 (CH = 213 in April) vs (7) Jay Clarke WR 174 (CH = 173 in September)
Great to see Jay back in harness, but a rather unfortunate draw.
I know nothing about Nagal, why do you think that is an unfortunate draw for him? On face value it looks ok in terms of rankings, wild card, possibly tough playing a home player but could probably be a lot worse?
Should be noted that Nagal was/is the reigning champion in this tournament, having beaten Jay in the 2017 final. Didn't see any of the match today, but I am sure Jay would have been rusty so not really surprised (or concerned) at the result.
The top 3 seeds all fell in the 1st round, the way this draw is opening up its an excellent chance to pick up a decent points haul. I hope James can take advantage.
Well, name jokes aside Nagal (could he be Rafa's cousin?) seems to a) like this venue and b) like beating the British players in the event - lets hope he goes on to repeat and make it just alittle more edible for our guys
