Girls: Wirral Junior International Liverpool (Week 1), hard - Grade 4 (Week 46)

I dont really understand the Tennis Europe concept is an age group tournament for Europeans, I saw one of the boys was from Hong Kong or is it just a series of tournaments staged in Europe. I can see the value of U14 on the girls side perhaps even U16 on the boys but then  I guess the best players play the ITF U18 events would that be right?

Tennis Europe is a tour for U12, U14, and U16. You don't have to be European to play. The U14 girls tour tends to be a pretty decent indicator of talent, while most of the top U16 talents have usually moved on to ITF events. The U14 this week is a grade 3 event, the lowest level Tennis Europe tournament.

Yes, I agree tharris. The U12 and U14 are very useful stepping stones to the ITFs and provide a good idea of level and standing.

Although, as always, some countries and some players favour them more than others. UK kids seem to play a lot of them, I've noticed.

But U16 is definitely getting a little old as the best players have spun off into ITFs, at least.

I do like this group, time will tell. Emma R won this tournament or its equivalent as a 13 yr old, I think it would be more challenging with this group and expect the QFs to be tight.

She won the G5 which is next week's tournament

As suspected Pola looks a real talent, I wouldnt be suprised if she wins this week, one to keep an eye on.
