Well Naomi has started the year by successfully pulling a defeat from the verge of victory in her first round doubles. 6-1 1-6 9-4 up and her opponents then win the next 6 points in a row to go 9-10 up, and after one more point to level it at 10-10, Naomi + then lose the next two points and the match 10-12, losing 8 of the last 9 points to do so.... Hope her singles are better tomorrow, but as the top seeds that's very disappointing after the first set start.
Edit: Just to note that Naomi + are ranked 170, the Taiwanese pair 450.
Emily and Sofia are currently 4-1 up in their doubles, and Tara + are 3-2 on serve.

Classic example of doubles momentum here. Namigata having been terrible now in a complete purple patch and Em and Sofia have gone from dominating and being up on their toes to looking very deflated
Shame for Maia, but that was a really tough draw despite being ranked nearly 200 places higher - I obviously know Maia won Shrewsbury, but I didn't realise her ranking was that high -on the fringe of breaking into the top 300, although she has Glasgow final points to defend soon. Anyway, Naomi B obviously struggled with the youngster (twice) and I have just seen she is not playing AO juniors this year so must be concentrating on the pro game and with that pedigree, reputation and potential, you can pretty much guarantee she will have had the best advice, training, nutrition etc. over the off season, although that said, I have just realised she played the ITF Dubai 100k last month.
