Bains holds to love, so *3-1.

Issy Wallace plays Sabrina Santamaria, a better doubles player, currently ranked 593. Hev will never have a better chance to qualify for a WTA draw. I'm not sure how many points you get for a Q1 win, but good opportunity for Wallace to pick up a win as well.

qr1 win is 12 pts

fqr win to qualify to md is 18 pts

Thanks. Strange how it's 12 here and 13 in Sydney, so one of the likes of Wallace or Santamaria are going to net 12 points, whereas the winner of Strycova vs Diyas (2 very capable players) or Sasnovich vs Zidansek are just going to get 1 extra.

Anyone know the answer regarding AO quals and playing quals here?

Too close for comfort here, Bains has a BP to potentially serve for the set. Hev saves it, deuce.

Sydney is a Premier, 470 points to the winner, whereas Hobart is an International. But both are 18 points for a qualifier, whuch is also strange.

The Aussies generally seem to be playing well here and in Sydney thus far (and last week as well with Aiava and Birrell having decent runs). Hope I'm not spoiling things for others, can't imagine I would be, but Bai has taken the first set off Potapova, Rogowska 5-4* up on Hercog and in Sydney, Hon is 5-0 up on the very hot and cold Krunic and Birrell has taken the first set off Mladenovic on a tie break. All those Aussies are ranked far lower than their respective opponents, including Bains here who has just held to make it *5-5.

Watson breaks to 15 and takes the first set 7-5.

Just checked back in to the scores and looks like 2 very long games to start the set. Watson held to 40 in her first service game, and Bains has just done the same. *1-1. I'll be heading to bed after this set, so hopefully it's wrapped up and not going to a decider.

Heather saved 3 break points in the first game. It's a battle.

Ah, Watson with a break - hopefully the crucial one. Leads *4-2 in the 2nd.

2 holds, so a chance for Hev to serve it out. *5-3.
