I'm off to bed now before the Katie's start their matches - if they started then I'd likely end up following the scores. Hopefully wake up to 2 more wins.
Anyone know what the status is with the Aussies playing in quals here? The Aussie Open MDWCs have been announced and the prime candidates for the QWCs are playing this week, so if they do well here, are they effectively ruling themselves out of their home grand slam?
They can accept a WC to AO qualifying after they have lost in the WTA competition.
Sydney is a Premier, 470 points to the winner, whereas Hobart is an International. But both are 18 points for a qualifier, whuch is also strange.
Premiers are 25 points for qualifying. Indeed what Harriet earned in Brisbane plus 55 for winning MD R1.
Indeed. The ranking points table doesn't provide for a 2 round qualifying for a 32 MD Premier, only a 3 round qualifying. So it looks like the draw sheet is showing points from the ranking points table for Q1, Q2 and Q3.

And if they are still in the Hobart competirion by say Tues or Wed then they can't play in AO quals? Obviously it would help their ranking progressing in a WTA event, but seems like a conflict of interest.
Probably a bit hard to lift herself after all the excitement of the Hopman Cup, a deserted court in wind swept Tazzy is bit of a come down.
Or perhaps just inconsistent / fitness related. That's the 4th time since August that's she's lost the deciding set 1-6 to players she'd be expect / be favourite to beat - Watson*, Broady, Kiick and now Minnen.
This article that Steven posted on Katie's recovery from chronic fatigue syndrome explains some of this. She still has to manage - and limit - how much on court training and gym work she does, and it mean she is prone to tire late in games, especially if she is playing a few in a row. But she made great progress last year, so let's hope she can continue this.
