There are already 3 LL spots in the MD. Can somebody who understands these things explain the process for allocating those slots - essentially, is Hev (2nd highest ranked player left before FQR matches) guaranteed one of those spots, or is it luck of the draw?
Rule III.3.C.1.a.v - Lucky Losers "Lucky Losers are players who have lost in the final Qualifying round or, if more Lucky Losers are required, those players who have lost in the previous Qualifying round(s).
Lucky Losers shall be selected based on the WTA singles computer Rankings from the week prior to the start of the Tournament (Special Rankings are not considered)."
then from those players that have the 'x' highest ranks, where 'x' is the # of ll required to fill ouy the draw, they draw random lots to place the ll in the open spots in the draw
it can be diferent under very spesific circemstance
I just looked at the official website, and the draw shows seven Q/LL spots - and there are 6 qualifiers. Have another couple pulled out ?
Linette and Brengle are still showing in the Q draw ahead of Heather.
Probably a bit hard to lift herself after all the excitement of the Hopman Cup, a deserted court in wind swept Tazzy is bit of a come down.
Yes, and I also wonder how long she had to get used to the conditions (which are quite different) and the courts. No more than 1 practice, if that.
That said, still disappointing. I was hoping she'd take the confidence from the Serena match and translate it. To me, being able to do that for the first time is as much on the coach as it is on the player...
Greet Minnen is a good player...stalled due to injury, on her way back. There are good players in Itfs, not just WTA
Yes, I'm quite a fan of Greet, having seen her live and watched her match.
But she lost to Tara, to Maia and to Emma Rad this year (while playing a full schedule) so there's no getting round it's a disappointing result for GB .
Yes, good player Greet may be she has bever yet been in the top 200 and has such results as CD gave so it is a disappointing result for Katie, a top 100 player on the rise with the number of top 100 wins she had last year.
Hopefully her ability to deal with successive and longer matches will improve and while there have been fall away matches there have last year been good long battling wins against good opponents.
The remaining chronic fatigue effects may be variable but hopefully are becoming less and less. She will certainly want to be all she can be in time with full training and preparation. She has overall done really well in the circumstances.
Looking like another close battle for Hev, but she's hopefully closing in on the first set, 5-3*. Set started with 3 successive breaks, but thee's been 5 holds in a row since, although a lot going to (sometimes multiple) deuces.
