Theyve played twice before - Imanishi won comfortably on hardcourt in Vancouver back in 2013, and Tara got her revenge last year in straight sets in Nottingham on grass.

Comfortable straight sets win for Tara. Second seed next. Nice to see.

Maia gets sixth seed Minokoshi in the main draw.

Em/Sofia have top seeds and last week champions Kraijeck/Stefkova. Tara is playing with the same Italian girl and they also draw seeds.

Good for Tara to get a win! She'll need the same again to qualify against a good junior.

It is these kind of matches that will test whether Maia is ready to continue to make upward progress this year.

Believe it or not, that Nottingham qualifying win last June was Tara's last but one singles win, so she has now got 2 of her last 3 singles wins against Imanishi.

Women's $25K first round qualifying is now the only situation is men's or women's pro tennis where a win doesn't earn you any sort of a ranking point.

They get ITF points.

Ah, sorry. Might be an idea to give women's 25K QR1 winners ITF points.

That would involve common sense though.

Non Brit related, but last weeks HK winner Lopatetska (no longer Lopatetskaya) beat the Japanese youngster Uchijima 6-2 6-1. The Chinese youngster Xinyu Wang (who made headlines against Sharapova last week) is in the main draw and starts off against a qualifier - would be very interesting if it was against Lopatetska, if the Ukranian can come through her FQR (or Tara of course).
