Week 2 - Australian Open men's qualifying - hard

One rubbish draw, one even-looking draw and one really nice draw, though whether the results will bear that out remains to be seen!

QR1: Jay Clarke WR 237 v (q1) Lorenzo Sonego ITA WR 104 (CH 86 in Oct)

Top Q seed in QR1 - ouch!

QR1: Dan Evans WR 190 v (q23) Rogerio Dutra Silva BRA WR 134 (CH 63 in 2017)

The Brazilian has just won the Playford Challenger, though Dan must have a decent chance if he's up for it.

QR1: James Ward WR 187 v (wc) Maverick Banes (AUS) WR 301 (CH 216 in Aug)

Banes is 0-5 in Aus Open qualifying, though he did win a set in QR1 for the first time last year.

In the MD, Kyle will be seeded 13, although with Sacha Zverev now a doubt having pulled a hamstring in Adelaide, he may go up one more in the pecking order.

Evo would be a player I would definitely want to avoid in the first round of a qualifying tournament.

Looking forward is a tough draw for EVO.

Just checking, are any of the men playing today (as in overnight Monday/Tuesday day time) UK time?

Cant see Jay qualifying, also not sure I feel confident about Dan at all (dont think his recent form has been inspiring) but fancy Wardy doing well in qualies

Yeah Dan's on at 11pm british time. Then Clarke straight after so hopefully Dan wins quickly . You might be able to catch Ward at 7amish as he's on last depending on the lengths of the previous matches.

I agree with these sentiments.  I will be surprised if any of them get beyond QR2.
